Fragmented .tmp file in Windows\temp folder
I recently defragged my hard disk and found that I have a file - HP6AA.tmp that still is very fragmented. It is located in my windows\temp folder. I would like to know if I can delete this file since it is in the temp folder. In fact, can I delete all files and folders under the windows\temp folder?1 person needs an answerI do too

In theory, the items in the temp folder should be transient. In practice, it would be difficult to say for certain, but you can do some things to check if the file can be removed. Search for the filename in the registry and see if you turn any hits up. If so, what are they? Consider using Sysinternals' Process Explorer to see if any process has a handle to that file. Also consider using Sysinternals Process Monitor to see if any application attempts to access that file. If it looks like the file is unused, consider renaming it and seeing how thing work for a while. If you don't experience any problems after a while, it is probably safe to remove.

Never had a problem with it. Personally I use a freebie called CCleaner:(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System Restore point before installing software or updates) CCleaner Featureshttp://www.ccleaner.com/features CCleaner Buildshttp://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds(get the Slim version)John Inzer - MS-MVP - Digital Media Experience - Notice_This is not tech support_I am a volunteer - Solutions that work for me may not work for you - ***Proceed at your own risk***

I delete my Temp and Temporary Internet Files every day...it makes browsing go smoother. That's a great idea. I normally use the built in Disk Cleanup and Task Scheduler... but when I tried to set it up a schedule on my work laptop I get this error."We're all in it together, kid." - Harry Tuttle, Heating Engineer
